Choose the right material to knit
Our knitting patterns are best knitted with the same material choice as we have used, usually this is the long-haired 80% mohair (25 gr = 100 meters). We knit the models with 3 threads on needles no. 12 (2x25 grams = 75 grams = 100 meters) .
Or knit more loosely with 4 threads and needle no 12 (4x25 grams = 100 grams = 100 meters) .
Or with thicker needles with 4 threads and needle no. 14 (4x25 grams = 100 grams = 100 meters )(needle no. 14 are difficult to obtain, usually in the Netherlands ..). Really thick cardigans are knitted with 5 threads on needle size 15 this is : 125 grams = 100 meters .
So if you want to look for other material , a bit of math is involved now . .
Needles nr 10 = fraction of gram/meter is 75/100 Row no 12 = 75/100 , worked loosely is 100/100 Row no 14 = 100/100 Row nr 15 = 125/100 so you have to look for the number of threads that you can use. Suppose you now find kid mohair where 25 grams = 225 meters and you want to knit this with needle no. 12 knitted loosely then you have to get 100/100 this is 225 grams = 225 meters so you should use 9 threads because 225 /25 grams = 9 If you want to use this kid mohair on needle no. 10 you have to use 7 strands. Mohair has the advantage that it is very airy and knits far , you can not achieve the same effect with wool because it will weigh more heavily .
